To Flood or Not To Flood....

Everyone knows about Tropical Storm Fay. It ravished FL like no ends in a lot of places and left record rain falls everywhere. I had small flooding, nothing major but others weren't so lucky. But what i find odd is the lack of common sense, damn a 3C, during this. On both the parts of the people and supervisors of certain villages and towns.

One town, not far from me is even asking for the mayor and superintendent to step down from office for not doing enough to prevent the flooding. Which i find a little odd, as it's being used as a scape goat for the people lack of sense. The town has a major river running through it as well as sits on a massive lake. Both prime subjects for a flood.

Now i don't know all of the aspects of their politics, but i do know most people, not just here in FL, turn down projects that raise their taxes. So let's say it was brought up to build levee's for this town, they were built so most likely they were turned down due to taxes.

But let's look at some things here. The lake itself can hold some 200 million gallons of water. Damn that's a lot of bath tubs to fill. Apparently the storm pushed through and flooded the area with roughly 800 million gallons of water. They're bitching because the lake wasn't drained before the storm arrived. Ok, i'll give them that. However, lets do some BASIC math. You now have a hole in the ground that will hold 200 million gallons of water. Once the rain starts and the lake fills up, where do the remaining 600 gallons go? Your front lawn maybe? The amount of rain that was dropped by this storm and the fact that it stayed for 5 days makes it a little difficult to remedy.

Now, there was a man that was interviewed who was extremley pissed at the officials of this town. He is a disabled man who had to evacuate with his wife. He was qouted as saying on the news as well as the paper of taking the follwing items when they left: "Clothes, Coffee maker & Bottles of Wine."

He is pissed that he lost his scooter and his wheelchair to the flooding of his house. Now i'm thinking, any common sensed person, yes i'm using that same 3C again, that if you need something like a wheel chair you take the damn thing with you. Mobility is more important then a bottle of wine. Unless your spouse is ugly enough that's what it takes. But all in all, the hotel would have coffee for you and i'm more then sure that the town where you would be held up would have a store to buy a bottle of wine.

So here is my evacuation list... few clothes, medication, few personal belongings, pets, digital camera, cell phone and laptop.

I think people need to realize, there's no fightning mother nature. She will drop you like a bad habbit if she she's fit. I know, I've been through blozzards, ice storms, floods myself and a tornado. So take a small raise in your taxes and build some protection. Small barries along the shore, etc. Loose a little bit of your "precious" view to save your ass.
